traintown

it’s that time of year
everything’s dead – it’s raining
in a way I’m glad you’re not here
time on your hands – complaining
can I ever tell you that I miss you
without it being such an issue
see you around – traintown

from the window of this train
I see into the eyes of America
dirty sweet and plain
waiting like a thief for a miracle
but this is real – these are our lives
on martyrs, gigolos and housewives
failure smiles like a clown – in traintown

some go, some go mad
times I wish I had
to fade away like that
would that be so bad

the river’s covered in mist
I was looking for somewhere to hide
I threw a rock – I made it skip
one for every time that I lied
but that’s all water – here’s to good years
‘though every drink I pour turns to tears
I’ll get this round - traintown
