wasted moon

I open my eyes - open up my mouth to scream
but nothing comes out – nothing comes of it but a bad dream
I drink til my thoughts die I sleep til afternoon
stay up all night praying to a wasted moon

headlights, spotlights, silhouettes fell on the sea
we ran down the beach, ran down the battery
we drank up the darkness felt the swell and swoon
wide awake and wasted underneath the moon

stop listening
stop remembering
just stop everything
and you tell me this isn’t happening

happy ever after, laughter filled the air
one day I saw that you weren’t there
happy ever after, guess I spoke too soon
heartache is forever on a honeymoon
